This week in the industry… US Group to Fight For Independent Contractor Relationships (via Staffing Industry Analysts) Because of U.S. and state governments taking a deeper look & challenging independent contractor relationships, a new organization was created to fight back. The group, called “It’s My Business,” plans to raise public awareness about the importance of independent contractors. Going Global: Points to Ponder (via The Staffing Stream) Over the past five years or so, we have seen an increased volume of two things: U.S.-based programs expanding to Europe and other regions and RFPs for first- and second-generation programs that include multiple countries in the INITIAL scope. Why? There’s no one answer, but some of the reasons include points made in this article. Uncle Sam’s Outsourcing Tab: $517 Billion (via CNNMoney) The government shelled out more than $500 billion in outsourcing contracts in the most recent fiscal year, paying for everything from submarines to janitorial contracts. The spending flowing to outside businesses accounts for roughly one out of every three dollars of discretionary government spending. That’s it for this week.
