T he YMCA’s First Coast Games—a local sporting events competition between Jacksonville-based companies on the first coast—is back for its ninth year! Sporting events include flag football, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and tennis, just to name a few.

For the first time in its history, Beeline returns to the Games as defending champions.

The Champs Are Back

The Champs are BackAfter having an incredible year in 2014, Beeline is striving to defend its title successfully. While it is going to be a difficult task to accomplish (as the bull’s eye sits squarely on our back), we are off to a terrific start! For the second year in a row, Beeline won the Opening Ceremonies Banner Competition, edging out Adecco and GE to take a commanding initial lead in the First Coast Games. To add to the great start, Beeline participated in the First Coast Kids Triathlon. We sent a large group of volunteers to this event, which has been recognized as one of the fastest growing events worldwide. Beeline was one of the only companies to secure maximum volunteer bonus points, ensuring an extension to our early lead in the Games.

Beeline Basketball TeamAs Captain of the First Coast Games, I’ve always been amazed at how Beeline rallies together. Colleagues travel to events from across town, often fighting rush-hour traffic, just to cheer in the stands. They show up to watch their colleagues battle, even when the games don’t begin until late in the evening. Rain or shine, Beeliners come out to support their fellow colleagues. I know that if it were not for the support shown by everyone in the company, we would not be sporting a shiny, silver trophy in the lobby of the Jacksonville Beeline office. I can’t tell you how many times a representative from another participating company has approached me and asked, “How do you get so many people to come out and support your teams?” This is a true testament to the supportive culture here at Beeline, and how we really are ‘One Company.’

Putting the Community First

Beeline Tug of War

In addition to consistently doing well in the Games, Beeline has also established itself as highly respected company in the community. The YMCA continues to reach out to Beeline for sponsorships, for volunteers, and for insight regarding community ideas and games initiatives. The examples are endless. Year after year, Beeline attends the Annual Beaches Clean-Up Day, collecting litter and debris that would otherwise degrade our beautiful beaches, threaten marine life, and pose safety hazards. We routinely participate in the ‘I Heart Art’ campaign, designed to help kids find their inner artist by donating art supplies to the YMCA. We also have colleagues participate in blood drives every season. I am asked all the time, “What makes Beeline so special?” and I always reply, “It’s the people here that make it all possible.” In order to do something special, you have to have special people.

First Coast Games Defending Champions

As the games continue in 2015, we look forward to the challenge of claiming the title of Champions of the First Coast Games once again. If we learned anything from last year, it’s that this accomplishment will take the help and support of every person at Beeline—something in which I’m very confident.
