The challenge
The complexity of maintaining and expanding the client’s information technology (IT) infrastructure requires a diverse and dynamic extended workforce of highly skilled IT professionals. As its talent requirements grew, the company recognized the need for greater visibility of this workforce, as well as ways to mitigate compliance risk and rationalize their supplier base to realize cost savings.
They needed an extended workforce program that could standardize and streamline sourcing, tracking, and management processes, with the ability to apply consistent metrics around the world. For the expertise and technology they needed, they turned to Beeline.
Our client has developed an extensive, constantly evolving information technology infrastructure to support its worldwide operations, including exploration, production, distribution, and global resource management.
The solution
Beginning in March 2014, we worked closely with the client to determine their needs and set realistic goals for IT staffing and the vendor management system (VMS) technology to support it.
Due to the complexity of the client’s business requirements—including the multinational nature of the work assignments and, consequently, the multinational sourcing of professionals to fill them—the solution design has evolved extensively since it was first implemented, to ensure that it delivers the desired business value.

The result
The extended workforce program went live in October 2014, and Beeline VMS now provides a single source of truth for the client and IT staffing suppliers to obtain accurate data for all current and historical staff augmentation contracts.
- Since its inception, the program has delivered process efficiencies and facilitated supplier optimization, which has contributed to millions of dollars in cost savings.
- The program has improved the ability to generate reports and reduced sourcing time, providing essential visibility into non-employee worker data necessary for tracking and managing security and compliance issues.
- The system also tracks worker and vendor performance, providing vital insight for improving quality and operational efficiency.
- The ability to achieve consistent business processes across geographies has increased program adoption by all stakeholders. It has also eased and expedited the client’s expansion strategy.
- The program is now active in 11 countries. Expanding into India took only five weeks due to the ability to replicate many processes and workflows that had already proven their effectiveness in other geographies.
With that implementation complete, the client is considering expanding the extended workforce program into more regions and incorporating services procurement capabilities to source and manage statement of work (SOW)-based projects.
